Yard Sale Mania

Yesterday my neighborhood had a yard sale day and boy was it crazy. The streets were plugged with cars and people. It felt very festive and I felt like we needed to sell stuff to be part of it. So the kids sold cookies and pop. It was fun for the kids ( not so fun for me because I was making cookies (due to procrastination) and setting up their little stand and watching Sam because he was in the front where all the cars were and listening to Isaac cry (Terry was sleeping cause he worked the night before)). Anyway, we survived and the kids made a memory and they even made a little bit of money.

One little funny thing happened with the pop. We bought orange Sunkist and I checked the label before we bought it to see if it had caffeine in it. I didn't see it so we bought it and went home. Later when we started selling I looked at a can and there was caffeine in the pop. I told the kids and they got really worried. Abby started announcing to people who were walking by that they didn't want to by the orange pop because it had caffeine. The people were looking at her a little puzzled. Some neighbor kids came over to buy pop who were LDS, and they picked out the orange pop. Abby was trying really hard to talk them out of getting that kind. I told them to check with their parents before they drank it to see if it was all right. Anyway, it was funny.

I think yard sales are an interesting phenomenon. People speed walking everywhere, thinking that the deal of a century is just around the corner. Anyway. . .

Yard sales ARE funny! Some people are so into them. I supppose if you found a great deal it would make it worth it. I love the story of Abby and the orange crush. Great job teaching your kids about no caffiene. I don't think my kids have ever heard of it! You're a cute mom.

Garage sales are HUGE here. HUGE. I thought it was wierd when I first moved to the Treasure Valley 7 years ago, but I am now a yard sale addict. I love going. I used to go every weekend when the kids were younger and I wasn't as busy on the weekends as I am now. I should post about all my finds. People around here sell good stuff. I hit all the nice neighborhoods and really score...brand name clothes worn only a few times for .50 each, new adult bikes for $25 each, our backyard swingset for $25 (the $200 kind)...I could go one and on. Garage sales depend on the area...some places are kind of junky but I love there here. We love to go to the neighborhood garage sales when the whole place is involved, and we can hit 100+ at once.
